Black glazed Kylix from Gnathia, one of the Greek colonies in southern Italy, circa 340 BC.
It is 18 cm in Diameter and 25 cms across the handles and is intact.
There is a slight iridescence, as is often normal with this glaze over time, and also stamped and engraved decoration in the bowl, again this is typical.
A firing flaw in the glaze at one place on the cavetto has been over painted, presumably when it was found and cleaned (photo 8 and 10 show it). Traces of the encrustation remain.
There is a very small nibble on the edge at 10 O’clock on photo 4.
