Coco Chocolatero

Large silver mounted coconut “Coco Chocolatero” with pierced handles, engraved panels and openwork foot. Initials inscribed to one of the handles. Probably Mexico, Guatemala or Venezuela, 18th century.

Coco Chocolatero are vessels which were popular from the 17th century onwards in the Viceroy of New Spain, used to serve small quantities of chocolate beverages.
